When her husband was transfered in the early 1980s, Edith Eva relinquished her teaching position in East Cleveland and moved to the growing west side. She began to substitute in local daycares and kindergartens where she combined her Montessori training with her preschool teaching experience to write the curriculum for teaching reading to four, five, and six year old students. A fervent believer in the benefits provided by focusing on phonics and objects, Edith could see the outstanding academic progress made possible through the use of these teaching methods with small groups. She began to tutor local students while assembling her own materials and teaching aids. With a staff that included two teachers and a speech and language pathologist, Edith opened Children's Learning Center in 1986 to offer preschool classes at her 1,000 square foot location at The Crossings in Westlake. The results were so rewarding, that within nine years Children's Learning Center outgrew its original facilities and moved into its present 2,000 square foot location at The Atrium in 1995. We recently visited Children's Learning Center and listened as Edith described her school and curriculum;
