German born Frank Schneider began building custom homes in Cleveland's Westshore communities during the late 1930s. After his son Harold (Hal) was discharged from the military after the Korean Conflict, Hal continued to work in the family business, gaining valuable experience not only in custom building, but also in working closely with their clients to ensure their total satisfaction. We visited with Hal recently and listened as he spoke of his dedication to quality and his company's current offerings;
Doverwood Estates, Inc. has built all types of buildings including high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, and shopping centers, although we specialize in designing and building custom-built homes for buyers whose needs are not met by the pre-fab construction offered by most national builders. We still believe in custom building homes from the ground up, starting with block basements and continuing through each stage of construction with top quality craftsmanship and an eye for detail.
I've always preferred hands-on supervision. I have a foreman on each job, but I'm still on the job every day to make sure everything is completed the way it should be. My philosophy is, "If you can't do it right the first time, you're going to have to do it over and correct it." My sub-trades know that I insist on having perfect workmanship and I won't tolerate anything that's not correctly built. This provides a level of customer satisfaction that has resulted in the opportunity to build second and third homes for many of our customers, in addition to building homes for many of their family members. I like to produce top quality homes in record time for our clients, working hand-in-hand with each buyer to ensure their needs and preferences are met completely.
Our current project is called Windon Court, located on the Northeast and Northwest corners of Horseshoe Boulevard and Center Ridge Road in Westlake. It's ideally located across from Pebblebrook and abutting Acadia Terrace with units selling from $600 thousand to $1 over a million dollars. Our units are twin cluster homes featuring custom designed floor plans and ranging in price from $394 thousand to $450 thousand dollars. All of these units have stone fronts and very unique roof lines in keeping with the architectural style preferred by the City of Westlake. They all have custom features and although they all maintain the same footprint, the floor plans are customized to the buyers preferences. We added an elevator to one unit for a buyer with a handicapped sister, and as she enjoys Irish folk dancing, added a dance floor in the exercise room next to the Master Bedroom with a see-through fireplace.
Most of our buyers are Empty Nesters and have children in high school and college. We design their homes in accordance with their lifestyles and preferences. We offer a large Great Room and a Master Bedroom with a large Loft, and two large bedrooms on the second floor for their guests or their children who are still living at home. We strive to offer as much deviation and customization as possible to make our buyers comfortable because they're planning to live in these units for quite a length of time. In addition, a profitable tax benefit of living in Westlake is that the Westlake community's tax base is much lower than the tax base in surrounding communities.
Our model home is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 pm until 4:30 pm or daily by appointment. The model is completely decorated in a unique Tuscany décor and provides a wealth of decorating ideas that can be utilized in most any home. I invite everyone to stop by our model home and see themselves how Doverwood Estates, Inc. can custom design the home of your dreams!
