Dr. Sherri L. Carney's love of medicine grew from her direct experience in the healthcare field. A Registered Nurse since 1987, Sherri received her degree in biology in 1993, and graduated from medical school in 2000. Whe worked as a Registered Nurse at McCafferty Health Center while studying for her Board exams, and once she passed them, was accepted to do her internal medicine residency training at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. After completing her residency at St. Vincent's, Dr. Carney opened her own practice in Westlake on August 9, 2004. As a general internist, I specialize in the practice of adult medicine. I see male and female patients ages sixteen and older, and I treat conditions such as thyroid disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. My area of emphasis is women's health including routine preventive and primary care. My goal is to provide each patient with the time to have all their questions answered and their healthcare needs met.

In the world of medicine, primary care physicians such as myself are often called the gate-keepers. I coordinate my patients' overall care, referring them to specialists such as cardiologists, gastoenterologists, or endocrinologists on an as needed basis. My focus on internal medicine has provided me with an in-depth understanding of the medical needs encountered by adults at different stages in their lives.

I strive to duplicate the atmosphere found in doctor's offices early in the last century. I personally call patients with abnormal lab results and I enjoy providing the unhurried, one-on-one care that was common before the days of assembly line medicine. We even set aside time to accept walk-in patients.
