As a dedicated sports enthusiast, Thomas J. Moran's favorite activity was power lifting and he credits the sport as an important catalyst in his choice of careers. A Licensed Practical Nurse since 1975, Tom injured his shoulder while lifting weights and lost the ability to raise one of his arms. He consulted many doctors and spent time undergoing physical therapy, but nothing seemed to restore his previous mobility. He heard of a man who owns a local gym and who had been crushed under some weights when both his knees gave out. Tom gave him a call, went to visit with him, and they talked about what had happened, his doctors' prognosis, and the lack of progress Tom had made in physical therapy. He explained to Tom that he wasn't a licensed therapist, but that he had a bit of training, he worked on members of his gym, and that he'd be willing to try to help Tom, also. The gym owner began to work on Tom and he was right, it really did work. Fifteen minutes later, Tom could raise his arm over his head again, something he hadn't been able to do since his injury. That was the very moment when Tom Moran decided to become a massotherapist. In 1991, Tom graduated from the Ohio College of Limited Medical Practice and passed the rigorous two day exams in front of the State Medical Board in Columbus to become a Licensed Massage Therapist. He rented space from a local physical therapy and sports medicine center where he practiced massotherapy until he opened Moran Massotherapy on Detroit Road in late 1998 with the support of his wife Angie. In acknowledgment of his expertise and professionalism, Tom recently qualified for inclusion in the 2006-2007 "Honors Edition" of the Manchester Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. Moran Massotherapy offers sports, medical, and relaxation massage therapy in the treatment of soft body tissue injury and discomfort. Massage therapy not only increases circulation, but also increases movement of the joints by returning muscles and the surrounding tissue back to their normal length and function. Muscle soreness is often caused by "knots" which shorten the muscle and prevent it from working as it should. Imagine a rubber band (the muscle) tied in a knot. It won't stretch nearly as far as it would if the knot weren't present. Massage therapy is like untying that knot and allowing the rubber band to return to its normal length and flexibility. Due to his experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Tom is more in tune with associated medical conditions than most other therapists. In addition to his professional certifications, Tom is also a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, the largest professional organization for massage therapists in the world. Moran Massotherapy can provide the proven benefits of massage for sports injuries, medical conditions, or to simply help you relax and feel at your best. Call Moran Massotherapy today and don't forget to tell Tom that The Advocate sent you! |
