Subway® was founded in Milford, Connecticut as a single store in 1965 by a partnership that included recently graduated Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck, a family friend. The following forty years has seen Subway grow to twenty-three thousand restaurants located in seventy-four countries. Subway operates more units in the United States and Canada that even McDonald's does!

In December 1993, Paula Parker and Emilie Weimels purchased a Subway® franchise for Westlake, and began searching for the right location. Driving along Detroit Road, they noticed a sign for the soon-to-be-built Promenade, and decided that would be the perfect spot for their new restaurant. Securing their chosen location, Paula and Emilie opened the doors to Westlake's Subway® in May 1994, and have been pleasing the palates of local diners ever since.

We stopped by the restaurant recently, and listened as Emilie provided this overview of the treats that await you at Subway®;

Subway® offers a wide array of low-fat sub sandwiches on six varieties of homemade bread that include honey oat, wheat, Parmesan oregano, Italian herb & Cheese, Italian, and white bread. You choose the meats, cheeses, and condiments for your sub so your sandwich is made precisely to your specifications. We use our own brand of deli meats, packed for us by Louis Rich and Oscar Mayer, in addition to Kraft mayonaise and condiments. Our subs are available in six and twelve inch lengths and on "rounds", which are like homemade hamburger buns, as well as our famous six foot long party sub. We bake several varieties of homemade cookies twice each day, including chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, and macedamia nut.

Many of our customers come in at 9:00 in the morning on their way to work to pick-up a sub for lunch. We also offer a fax service, so businesses in the area can fax in their order before lunch time, and it will be ready and waiting for them when they come to pick it up.

Subway® is a very friendly restaurant to visit, and a wonderful place to work. Most of our staff are high school and college students who combine a business attitude with a willingness to please. Many work year 'round, and others leave for school in the fall and return to work during the summer months and over school vacations.

We've recently added toasted subs to our menu, and in the near future we will be using garlic butter on our meatball sandwiches.
