Growing up on a dairy farm in Vermillion, Ohio, Dr. David H. Love was continually surrounded by more cows, horses, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, and dogs than you could number. His natural affinity for animals laid the foundation for his decision to pursue veterinary medicine as his career choice. Realizing the advantages his young children would enjoy growing up in Westlake, Dr. Love moved his family to our community and opened Westlake Animal Hospital in a little shopping center in 1974.
As his practice continued to grow, Dr. Love built a new, state-of-the-art facility on Center Ridge Road in 1991. In 2005, he was joined in his practice by Dr. Michael Nappier who shares his desire to ensure your four legged friends receive the very best veterinary care possible. We toured Westlake Animal Hospital recently and listened as the doctors outlined their highly respected services;
Westlake Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital specializing in the medical and surgical needs of dogs and cats. Our services include annual and semi-annual check-ups, wellness programs, general surgeries, spays, neuters, and de-claws. We specialize in dental work for pets and perform general dentistry services, fillings, extractions, restorations, and advanced dentistries. We're one of a small handful of Cleveland practices with the ability to take dental x-rays of our patients teeth and we strive to maintain ourselves at the forefront of new veterinary techniques.
Our clients can watch their pets x-rays being taken and afterward we explain and interpret the x-rays for them. Our x-rays and electrocardiograms are forwarded each evening to Board Certified Radiologists and Cardiologists and the results are faxed to our office the following day. In emergency situations, we can have the results returned to us within minutes.
We have an open door policy for our clients. We encourage you to be in the exam room with your pets and to be with them any time they are receiving an injection or having blood-work performed. We have a picture window in our operating room that affords you a view of the entire procedure while a technician explains the procedure. Our practice is totally transparent and if your pet is hospitalized, you're welcome to come visit them any time.
To teach young puppies to be good citizens and know what their owners expect of them, we have host classes taught by an exceptional trainer. We also hold "clicker classes" that teach your dog to respond to a sound or a click rather than waiting for a verbal command.
We are extremely blessed by having a skilled staff of doctors and support staff who are not only very caring, compassionate people, but would be super stars in any other veterinary staff they chose to join. In addition, we augment our staff with the services of five Board Surgeons, a Veterinary Board Oncologist, several Veterinary Internists, a Veterinary Dermatologist, and a Veterinary Ophthalmologist. This wonderful assemblage of talent provides us the the ability to offer our patients a level of diagnostic skill seldom found in other practices.
We stay involved with the local community by working closely with Westlake Animal Control and the city of North Olmsted to have all the adoptable stray cats and dogs that are picked up in the local area brought to us. They're given free examinations and de-wormings, and if they have fleas, we de-flea them for free also. The cats are checked for feline leukemia and AIDS, and each animal is properly vaccinated in accordance with their age. Our goal is to ensure that these pets are perfectly healthy, parasite-free, and ready for adoption with little or no additional owner expense. Each year we find homes for between thirty to fifty cats and kittens and half that many dogs. In 2004, the Westlake Chief of Police present us with a plaque in recognition of thirty year commitment to the community.
